Why I suggested a band work with someone else

A band wanted to hire me. I suggested they go with someone else. (In answer to your question, yes, I already see a therapist.)

Nothing against the band. They were nice. They were talented. They did not use dumb words like “incentivize.”

The issue: They were not ready for the marathon. They wanted a sprint.

They were about to release an EP and wanted a quick burst of attention for it. No time to build up channels of their own. No time to build up followers of their own. They needed to muscle their way onto other people’s properties, ones that had already built followings.

We still might work together down the line, but for now I recommended some people who were better suited to sprints. I’m about persistence and longevity.

As of this month, there are two bands I have been working with for 12 years.

I’m about the marathon.
