There is something extra impressive about a song that can be adapted to different styles of music and still sounds good. It is challenging enough to write a song that works in one genre. To write a song that works in more than one genre is rare.

“The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News has been covered in its original rock style by musicians all over the world. But in the last year it has been recorded in two very different styles. And amazingly, it works in both of them.

First Postmodern Jukebox spun it into a New Orleans blues tune, with singer Sarah Potenza delivering it with some serious sass.

Then Rick Faris converted “The Power of Love” into a Bluegrass song. In fact, he did it so well that it is now nominated for an IBMA Bluegrass Music Award for “Song of the Year”.
